IEC’s 76th General Meeting in Oslo

The 76th General Meeting of the IEC will take place in Oslo, Norway, from 1 to 5 October this year hosted by NEK, the Norwegian national member body of the IEC. (Certain Technical Committee meetings will take place also in the preceding week, already from 24 Sept.).

One good reason for hosting the event this year is that NEK is celebrating its 100th anniversary. Nemko is a member of NEK and will be one of the prime sponsors of this important annual event. The editor of this newsletter is currently chairman of NEK’s Governing Board and is heavily involved in the preparations of both the professional and social arrangements, which are expected attended by about 1 000 delegates (and 200 accompanying persons) from more than 70 countries. The full program is available on: http://www.standard.no/Global/externalSites/iec2012/Oslo-2012-programme.pdf .

Another highlight for NEK is that the former managing director, Mr. Tore Trondvold, has been elected President of the European electrotechnical standards body CENELEC for the next 3 years. This important European role implies amongst other close contact with central EU institutions, also at the political level.
