Nemko is a recognized leader in the field of Fire and Security testing, an area of complex compliance where new standards are continually being created. Nemko is abreast of the relevant directives and accredited for the EN54 standards.

This series of European Standards specify:

  • Requirements, test methods and performance criteria against which the effectiveness and reliability of the component parts of fire detection and fire alarm systems can be assessed
  • Requirements and test methods against which the ability of components to be combined into an effective system can be assessed
  • Guidelines for the incorporation and use of fire detection and fire alarm systems into buildings or other construction works.

This series of standards applies to fire detection and fire alarm systems for buildings. It may also be used as a basis for the assessment of components of systems for other purposes, e.g. mines, ships. Nemko is also accredited under the Maritime directives (MED).

Since conformity tests are also required for fire detection and reporting systems under the CPD (Construction Product Directive) the tests for R&TTE, EMC, LVD and CPD only need to be carried out once. Nemko is recognized for all these schemes and functions as a one-stop-shop. That can lead to faster market access and lower test costs.

Currently Nemko is accredited for:

  • EN54-2 (Fire alarm centers)
  • EN54-3 (Fire Sounders)
  • EN54-4 (equipment for power supplies)
  • EN54-11 (Manual call points)
  • EN54-17 (Short circuit isolators)
  • EN54-18 (Input /Output devices)

Nemko is also in the process of adding more areas to the list of accredited activities in order to provide a better service for fire detection and reporting systems.
