GlobalGap – Food Safety

The GlobalGap is a voluntary international standard that is used to minimize the environmental impacts on agriculturally produced food products.

Within the GlobalGap arrangement, Nemko can do approvals for fish farming, covering salmon and trout.

The GlobalGap standard reassures consumers about how food is produced on a farm in regards to the following:

  • Environmental impacts of farming operations
  • Reducing the use of chemicals
  • Ensuring a responsible approach to worker’s health and safety as well as animal welfare.

How does the Certification Process Work?

The certification process begins with a status analysis. This will determine whether the company's system is ready for certification, or if any action is needed before the certification audit takes place.

The certification will review all the requirements of the GlobalGap standard and verify that the company has implemented all the requirements.

The final meeting will verify what must be completed before a certificate can be issued.

Certificates will be issued with a validity of 3 years, subject to yearly surveillance audits.
