In Taiwan, the Bureau of Standards, Metrology & Inspection (BSMI) is the responsible authority for ensuring that products comply with their safety-, health-, environmental-, and technical regulations/standards.
They administer the product approval procedures under the Commodity Inspection Act and oversee the certification of electronic and electrical products, requiring them to meet specific safety- and EMC testing standards before they can be authorized to use the BSMI mark. (As shown above)
BSMI has now formally adopted and published amendments to the legal inspection requirements applicable to power supply equipment, including battery chargers. The amendments were previously notified under WTO notifications G/TBT/N/TPKM/594 + G/TBT/N/TPKM/594/Add.1, and have been adopted with only minor modifications.
Likewise, BSMI has formally adopted amendments to the legal inspection requirements applicable to information technology products, including uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), which were previously notified under WTO notifications G/TBT/N/TPKM/595 + G/TBT/N/TPKM/595/Add.1, and which have also been adopted with minor modifications.
According to both notifications, implementations are scheduled for 1 July 2027, which provides manufacturers, importers, testing laboratories, and certification bodies with a transition period to review and update compliance activities as necessary.
Manufacturers and other parties concerned with the covered products, (such as battery chargers, power adapters, external power supplies, and information technology products, including uninterruptible power supplies-UPS) to the Taiwanese market after 1 July 2027 should review the final inspection requirements and assess potential impacts on their technical documentation and conformity assessment activities for the Taiwanese market and in good time ensure that the products comply with the new requirements and associated conformity-assessment obligations.
