The simple process of obtaining a G-mark

If you want to sell your product to the Arab States of the Persian Gulf – and gain access to a market with 80 million people – your product will need a Gulf Conformity Mark (G-mark). What is the G-mark certification?

The G-mark is a mandatory requirement for low voltage electrical products imported into the Arab States of the Persian Gulf which falls under the  GCC Standardization Organization (GSO) scope. This includes a variety of common household products, for instance washing machines, air conditioners, etc. A G-mark certification is valid for three years, dependent, however, on the validity of the standard.

Scope and compliance

The countries currently part of the G-mark scheme include Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Yemen and the United Arab Emirates. These countries represent a market with a total of 80 million people.

A G-mark confirms that the product conforms to the requirements on safety and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC). All applicable products entering the Gulf region must be compliant with these regulations and have a G-mark.

The simple process of obtaining a G-mark through Nemko

The process for obtaining a G-mark through Nemko is usually very smooth for both the customer and the product. Normally the process doesn’t take longer than about 10 days.

Once Nemko has received the complete package of the documents the GSO requires, they are evaluated and registered on GSO’s system. After that a certificate is issued and submitted on the GSO website. Once the certificate is approved by the GSO, the certificate and product QR code is sent to customer.
