Pakistan, officially the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, is a country in South Asia with a population of about 240 million. Islamabad is the capital, while Karachi is the largest city. They are not unfamiliar with internet connectivity disruptions after a collapse occurred in 2022, which prompted the authorities to initiate extensive improvements. Recently, however, another collapse occurred and affected millions of users across the country incl. businesses and hospitals that depend on uninterrupted access. The cause is apparently, a series of global and regional outages.

Now, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has officially approved the use of the 6 GHz spectrum band for Wi-Fi 7, the next-generation connectivity standard, which is a significant step towards enhanced connectivity.
This decision shall bring Pakistan in line with global digital advancements and position the country as one of the first in the Asia-Pacific region to adopt this cutting-edge technology.

Wi-Fi 7, offers ultra-fast data speeds, very low latency, and high reliability to support e.g. 8K video streaming, AR/VR, and industrial automation. Also, it aims to reduce broadband costs and reduce network congestion by opening additional spectrum resources.

This step forward is set to have a far-reaching impact, especially on households, small businesses, educational institutions, healthcare centers, and even smart city projects.
By expanding bandwidth and reducing congestion on older frequency bands, Wi-Fi 7 will enable smoother, more efficient internet access across the country. As a result, users can expect faster downloads, smoother video calls, and overall improved internet performance.
The adoption of Wi-Fi 7 aligns with Pakistan’s broader vision of evolving into a secure, modern, and inclusive digital economy. As Wi-Fi 7 takes hold, the technology will also lower broadband delivery costs, easing the financial burden on consumers while fostering innovation across sectors.
