Define your role within Nemko.
I’m the Associate Director of the engineering department in Taiwan. My current job duties are assigning projects, managing project status, verifying the test report, and preparing a test report. In addition, I sometimes assist clients in solving their engineering issues.
How did you choose this career path?
It was not my plan. I quit my last job to go cycling around the island of Taiwan and was traveling to the US for a month. After taking some time for myself, I was preparing for the banking license examination since I wanted to change my career to work in a bank. During my preparation, my friend who worked at Nemko told me that there was an engineering position and asked if I wanted to try it, and I did and still am; it was a great choice.
What do you enjoy most about your job at Nemko?
Working at Nemko is like a challenge since every day is new; there are new projects to start with, new tasks to finish, and many engineering issues that need to be solved. So, working here is astonishing; thus, it helps me grow and improve as a person.
Are there any challenges that you’ve faced during your career that have taught you important lessons?
Professionalism is one of the challenges that I encounter in my job. Especially when dealing with customers, I always remind myself to be sensitive and empathetic in the workplace. This helps me build rewarding relationships with colleagues and clients and prevent conflicts. But it’s not every time that I can control it well, and I continue to practice perfecting these attitudes towards work.
What do you think the industry will look like in 20 years?
People have become increasingly dependent on smart handheld devices; we verify, identity, pay, shop, and surf the internet through it. Therefore, cybersecurity will become one of the essential parts of the age of technology. In line with that, the world will create new laws and standards to regulate to secure consumers' sensitive information.
What do you find most rewarding about your role?
I find it rewarding when I solve issues for the customers and when I get the related certifications to them on time.
What are some market trends you’re keeping an eye on?
People’s consumption demand has not decreased during the Covid-19 pandemic. They are changing the way of shopping from store to online. Especially, E-commerce is becoming a mainstream form of shopping. Instagram ‘Shop’ makes it easier for brands to advertise and sell their products directly through the platform. E-commerce will continue its upward trend and will not be slowing down in the future.
When not working, how do you spend your spare time?
I can’t stay at home during my spare time, especially on the weekends. I enjoy outdoor activities such as biking, freediving, and mountain climbing. I am also a travel bug and enjoy experiencing local culture and trying exotic foods.
