Restrictions towards the cancer- causing substance PAH

PAH (Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons) are chemical compounds found in oil and coal. In products they can be found in rubber, plastics or their compounds.
The restriction towards PAH’s was introduced in Germany in 2008 for 16 different PAH’s. The standard ZEK 01.4-08 since 2012 expanded the total number of regulated PAH to 18.
EU commission regulation 1271/2013 include PAH in the REACH restricted list from December 2015.

PAHs are substances that can cause following effects:
- Likely causes of cancer in humans
- Causes skin disorders in humans and animals
- Causes harmful developmental and reproductive effects
Limits for the PAH concentration according to German legislation.
