India’s TEC Announces an Enhancement of Validity of MTCTE Certificate

Written by Vanessa Wen | July 10, 2022

India’s Telecommunication Engineering Centre (TEC) announced the launch of Phase III and Phase IV of the Mandatory Testing Certification of Telecommunication Equipment (MTCTE) in 2021. Both of these phases were set to be mandated starting from July 1, 2022.

On July 1, 2022, a notification went out from the TEC that explained the MTCTE certificate has been enhanced from five years to ten years immediately, to reduce the compliance burden on industries and businesses.
This standard applies to a variety of telecommunication and information communication technology equipment that is manufactured, imported, and sold in the Indian market. All importers and manufacturers who sell or import this type of equipment must obtain a TEC certificate and display a TEC label before the product goes to market.

The TEC requires all relevant products to go through mandatory testing processes within an TEC-approved laboratory. These manufacturers and importers must meet all TEC-defined Essential Requirements in order to prove compliance with the following:

The MTCTE certification and registration is model based, so manufacturers and importers are only required to obtain certification once. These certificates will now be valid for ten years before requiring renewal.
