To streamline cross-border certification of telecom equipment, Indonesia and South Korea have now officially implemented a Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA) for testing reports. Thereby, telecom products tested in designated South Korean laboratories can be certified in Indonesia without additional testing, and vice versa for certification in Korea.
Implementation of the MRA was after a one-year confidence-building phase, when both nations worked to harmonize their technical regulations and ensure alignment in testing standards.
Indonesia’s Director General of Digital Infrastructure is officially granting the authorized South Korean testing laboratories status as Foreign Testing Laboratories (“BULN”) for issuing relevant Test Reports (“LHU”) that are valid for Indonesian certification by DJID (formerly SDPPI),
The recognized labs will be regularly monitored and evaluated by the authorities in respective countries to maintain high standards of accuracy and reliability.
Nemko Korea was the first Designated MRA Testing Laboratory in Korea approved by DJID.
The designation was based on a detailed assessment by the Korean RRA (National Radio Research Agency) under Korea’s Ministry of Science and ICT. It allows Nemko Korea to conduct testing and issue valid test reports for the following product types submitted for type approval certification in Indonesia:
o Non-mobile Low Power Wide Area Network (LPWAN) devices
o Short-range radio devices (SRD, below 40GHz)
o Wireless LAN equipment and frequency usage (Class License)
o Wireless Power Transmission (WPT) technical standards
o Communication equipment mounted on drones
Indonesia with over 280 mill people, is the world’s fourth most populous country, and has shown consistent economic growth over the past five years. It is one of the fastest-growing ASEAN economies and serves as a major export destination and a strategic gateway for Korean companies expanding into Southeast Asia.
With this designation, Nemko Korea is now better positioned to support manufacturers in streamlining the testing and certification process required for entry into the Indonesian market. Furthermore, it sets the foundation for expanding certification services throughout the broader Southeast Asian region.
