In addition to Nemko in Norway, also Nemko in North America has now been officially appointed by the European Commission as a Notified Body for Cyber security and the Common Charger articles of the European Radio Equipment Directive (RED) (2014/53/EU). This recognition extends the current scope of Nemko North America, Inc., as a Notified Body under the RED.
The present extension covers the RED Cybersecurity Articles 3(3)(d), (e), and (f), which set out requirements relating to protection of networks, personal data, privacy fraud.
Article 3(3)(d), (e), and (f) apply to specific categories of wireless devices that include mobile phones, tablets and laptops, smart home appliances, children’s toys, and baby monitors, as well as smartwatches and wearable fitness trackers.

Additionally, the Notified Body scope has been extended to the Common Charger related Article 3.4 in the Directive. This requirement is aimed at making device charging more straightforward and environmentally friendly by reducing the number of chargers and cables consumers need to purchase and maintain.

On 1 August this year, the RED articles 3.3 (d), (e), and (f) will become mandatory for all wireless devices and products within the scope of these articles when sold in the EU and EEA member states. Manufacturers and suppliers of radio-connected devices must then be compliant or else face potential action.

Nemko overall has extensive expertise in testing and evaluation to the requirements entailed in the RED Articles.
