Recently Released: 6th Edition of the ATEX 2014/34/EU Guidelines

On January 13, 2026, the European Commission published the 6th Edition of the ATEX 2014/34/EU Guidelines, introducing important clarifications for manufacturers, integrators, and notified bodies involved in explosion-protected equipment.

The revised Guidelines provide clearer interpretation of several recurring topics, including:

• Spare parts & maintenance – Distinguishing routine repair parts from modifications that require full ATEX conformity.

• “Simple” mechanical products – Confirming that items without their own ignition source remain outside ATEX scope.

• Digital documentation – Allowing EU Declarations of Conformity (EU DoC) and Instructions to be provided digitally, with paper copies available on request.

• Electrical trace heating systems – Introducing expanded guidance on design types, safety controls, installation responsibilities, and applicable conformity routes.
