A globally recognized cybersecurity standard for consumer IoT products is the ETSI EN 303 645:2020. As electrical and electronic consumer products represent most of the product categories being internationally certified within the IECEE/CB scheme, this cyber security standard has since 2023 been included in the scheme’s scope of standards.
So far, only 15 out of the presently 94 IECEE NCBs are qualified for certifying products to the standard ETSI EN 303 645:2020, including Nemko and 5 of its associated CBTLs, i.e. Norway, India, Korea, China and Taiwan.
The latest having achieved this important status is Nemko Taiwan last month. Their recognition was granted upon detailed assessment at site this fall by an expert team appointed by the IECEE Secretariat in Geneva.
This is considered a further step forward in Nemko’s strengthening of its capabilities for international testing and certification of cyber security, an increasingly important function of many electrical and electronic products.
Cyber security has become a necessary component for allowing manufacturers to demonstrate that their products comply with international standards and to gain streamlined access to global markets. At the same time, they can be confident that products they develop with IoT capabilities and bring to market are cyber-safe for users.
The ETSI EN 303 645:2020 standard defines key security and privacy requirements for consumer IoT devices, addressing growing concerns about data protection and product resilience against cyber threats. When a product is designed to comply with this standard, not only will it comply with regulatory requirements but also inspire user confidence and trust in an increasingly connected world.
