The significance of energy efficiency and saving has become self-evident in our time, for global climate reasons and national investments as well as cost savings for individual households and businesses. Countries around the world have implemented measures such as energy labelling of electrical household appliances and home electronics, some-times mandatory like in Egypt, the country in the northeast corner of Africa. Here, the regulated products shall comply with Egypt standards and bear the energy efficiency label before entering the market.
The regulated products include e.g. dishwashers, washing machines, air conditioners, refrigerators, TVs and displays. Regulations are enforced by Decisions issued by the Egyptian Ministry of Commerce & Industry and managed by the Egyptian Organization for Standards & Quality (EOS). The relevant EOS standards describe energy classification criteria and the energy label details.
The labeling process requires that a product sample is tested by an EOS-registered laboratory. The local importer then submits the test report and supporting documentation to EOS to receive authorization for using the energy label.
After the successful completion of a recent audit by EOS, the Nemko laboratory in Shenzhen, China has been officially listed by the EOS as an approved energy efficiency testing laboratory for Egypt’s energy label.
The laboratory is authorized to conduct energy efficiency testing for TVs and displays in accordance with the standard ES 7993/2023 (being effective since January this year) and is currently the only laboratory in mainland China registered to perform testing under this standard, which is also applicable for computer monitors.
