Iraq, officially the Republic of Iraq, is in West Asia at the bottom of the Persian Gulf. It borders Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Iran, Kuwait, Jordan and Syria.
The population is about 46 million. Baghdad is the capital and the largest city.
Iraq’s national Communications & Media Commission (CMC) has officially issued Decision No. 122/Q/2025 effective from 22 September this year, with the first national regulatory framework for Short-Range Devices (SRD) and Ultra-Wideband (UWB) equipment.
This regulation harmonizes Iraq’s radio spectrum management with the European ETSI- and international ITU standards and establishes a clear technical foundation for modern wireless and UWB-based devices.
The Key Highlights are
• Applies to all SRD and UWB devices, including IoT sensors, RFID, WLANs, radar-based instruments, medical implants,
automotive systems, and industrial monitoring devices.
• Frequency ranges include UWB operation permitted in 3.1–10.6 GHz band, with specific sub-ranges for automotive, radar,
and tracking applications.
• Technical Parameters:
– Max average power: –41.3 dBm/MHz EIRP, peak 0 dBm/50 MHz.
– Use of Low Duty Cycle (LDC) and Detect and Avoid (DAA) mechanisms required.
– Outdoor fixed or airborne UWB devices are not permitted.
• Compliance standards based on ETSI EN 302 065-1/2/3/4, ECC/DEC/(06)04, ensuring alignment with CEPT and EU frameworks.
• The equipment must be approved by the CMC before import, sale, or use in Iraq.
• Arabic/English labeling is required, and importers must be registered with the CMC.
• The CMC will conduct market surveillance audits and testing to verify continued compliance.
• Certificate validity 1 year
