    Protecting your organization from ransomware

Ransomware can be designed to encrypt files on a device, and these incidents can severely impact business processes and leave organizations without crucial data. Rendering any files and their systems unusable. When ransomware is used to steal a company’s data, the malicious actors then pressure victims for payment by threatening to release the stolen data or sell it if they refuse to pay.

Ransomware is often spread through phishing emails containing malicious attachments or drive-by downloading. Drive-by downloading occurs when a user unknowingly visits an infected website, and then malware is downloaded and installed without the user’s knowledge.

Who is at risk of a ransomware attack?
Anyone with a computer connected to the internet is at risk, including government or law enforcement agencies, healthcare systems, or other critical infrastructure entities.

What are some ways to fight against ransomware?
    • Update software and operating systems with the latest patches. Outdated applications and operating systems are the targets of most attacks.
    • Never click on links or open attachments in unsolicited emails.
    • Back up data regularly, keep it on a separate device, and store it offline.
    • Follow safe practices when using devices that connect to the internet.
    • Choosing strong passwords and protecting them.

    How can Nemko help?

Nemko has been working with cyber security for many years and has a range of services which includes vulnerability scanning and penetration testing of products, applications, and systems.
