Operations Manager and National Field Evaluations Team Leader

    Define your role within Nemko.
I am the Operations Manager, and the official title that I have is National Field Evaluations Team Leader. If I were to define my role from a high level, I make sure the team grows, and everyone is properly positioned to succeed. My daily tasks include high-level oversight of the day-to-day operations of the team ranging from technical conversations to sales-oriented conversations to business-based strategic growth conversations.

How did you choose this career path?
I was always drawn to technical things, and I enjoy leading people. So, this position is a great fit for me.

What do you enjoy most about your job at Nemko?
The thing that I enjoy most is team development and developing a healthy team culture. Seeing our team members thrive as individuals and celebrating the victories as a team is very rewarding to me.

Are there any challenges that you’ve faced during your career that have taught you important lessons?
The important lesson I've learned is that business is about people, and no matter your industry, it's about people. When you have the right people on your team, and you have a healthy culture within the team, then the rest takes care of itself; the customer service takes care of itself, the revenue takes care of itself, the team growth takes care of itself and so on.

What do you think the industry will look like in 20 years?
From my specific industry field evaluations, I don’t see much change in the industry. Maybe it's short-sighted of me, but I don't. I don't know if the industry is going to change that much because what we do is we're making sure that the equipment is safe to use. So, there will always be machinery equipment that needs to be tested and confirmed to be safe. Even the way that we do it going out on site, going to different companies to inspect it, writing reports, I think there's always going to be a need for a report and always going to be a need for testing and onsite inspection.

What do you find most rewarding about your role?
What I find most rewarding is having team wins. When we can all celebrate as a team and when we all pull together and work together to meet a common goal, it's not just one individual having a good month or doing a good job, it's recognizing everyone's contribution that makes going to work every day just so much more rewarding.

What are some market trends you’re keeping an eye on?
I would say the developing involvements of different regions in the country that have not yet done field evaluations. There are certain cities and counties that are starting to do more and more inspections that lead to field evaluations.

When not working, how do you spend your spare time?
I'm a family guy. I have a wife and three kids, so my free time is often spent at baseball games, soccer games, and going out to the movies with them.
