    Meet Michelle Furrow

Michelle Furrow Round Headshot v2Michelle Furrow

    International Approvals Specialist/Americas Regional Coordinator

    Define your role within Nemko.
I am the International Approvals Specialist/Americas Regional Coordinator. In my role, I establish routes and relations in the assigned region for international approvals by documenting country procedures for customers that need regulatory approvals on their products. I also develop relations with certification bodies, labs, and consultants and must be able to support sales in IA services as well as customers needing professional advisement for their products going to market.

How did you choose this career path?
I started with Nemko back in 2007 as a sales administrator and TCB project handler. Within a few years, I transitioned over to help set up the ND4T team at the request of local managers as we felt the demand in the market for more services to offer. Since then, we have grown into a global team supporting Nemko IA services and sales, while helping manufacturers get their equipment in the market around the globe.

What do you enjoy most about your job at Nemko?
The people I have met from around our global group are wonderful. The people I meet through Nemko make me want to work harder.

Are there any challenges that you’ve faced during your career that have taught you important lessons?
Working with so many different cultures, whether that is direct or indirect in my field, has humbled me. We must be able to see beyond our own borders to understand the diversity of culture in our field. We must respect the different cultures that we work within for mutual gain in business. Be patient and kind!

What do you think the industry will look like in 20 years?
High technologies-Robotics, to name one, that we will need to stay on top of. We must grow with the demand and embrace diversity and changes for the better.

What do you find most rewarding about your role?
Knowing that you are surrounded by Nemko supporters. In addition, having the ability to deliver what the customer wants is also very rewarding. Every certificate delivery feels great! Every positive comment from our customers feels even better! Overall, being part of a business that makes the world a safer place is a wonderful feeling.

What are some market trends you’re keeping an eye on?
I see demand for the Middle East on the rise, as well as Mexico and Brazil. We must focus on how we can get ahead of market demand in these countries. Covid 19 has been a travel challenge for us to establish good solid relations and gain an understanding of the regulations in these countries. We remain optimistic that we will be able to conclude our plans for face-to-face meetings and relationship building in the near future.

When not working, how do you spend your spare time?
I love to do small makeover projects at home using my own ideas and bringing them to life. I also love spoiling my two huskies, Zora, and Ricco. When time allows, I like to travel somewhere I have never been. I have to be busy with something. I love to take the annual girlfriend trip somewhere if possible. During Covid 19, we have had to strategize on staying within the US. In the later part of 2021, I went to Sedona and Prescott. I like to immerse myself in the history of each place I visit. In Sedona, we traveled with a historian guide to the ancient ruins of the Hopi Tribe. Wherever I land on trips, I also try to ride horses. I grew up riding horses, attended equestrian schools, and participated in several horse shows as a teenager. This kept me focused and out of the troubles that teens can get into. If I had the time, I would have a few horses to train and ride. Perhaps when I retire, I will rekindle that opportunity.
