Define your role within Nemko.
My role at Nemko, Senior Business Development Manager, is focused on bringing in new business to our Management System Certification Services portfolio. I also work in coordination with our Marketing department in order help increase the global awareness of the services that we offer.
How did you choose this career path?
I actually stumbled upon this industry. I was working within an Exhibit House, doing Sales & Account Management for Tradeshows & Event Activations, and when COVID hit, the entire industry was put on hold, and I was laid off. A competitor certification body then reached out to me on a job board, and the rest is history.
What do you enjoy most about your job at Nemko?
What I enjoy most is the interaction with people. Whether it’s with our clients or internally, getting the opportunity to work towards a common goal is what I value most.
Are there any challenges that you’ve faced during your career that have taught you important lessons?
I think the greatest challenge I’ve faced during my career in Sales is the challenge of rejection. It is important to understand that every salesperson will face this, and how one reacts to it will dictate how your career in sales will either flourish or decline.
What do you think the industry will look like in 20 years?
In 20 years, I believe the industry will be even more dependent on the trends within the technology industry. Things related to digital and blockchain-based credentials, as well as AI-driven personalization. I believe the certification industry will be globally integrated with a focus on emerging technologies and flexible learning.
What do you find most rewarding about your role?
What I find most rewarding about my role is the ability to work with individuals from multiple industries, who are all working towards a common goal in improving their organization and the world around them.
What are some market trends you’re keeping an eye on?
Market trends that I’m keeping an eye on are:
- AI Compliance ISO Standard, ISO 42001
- Sustainability Certifications
- ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) performance.
When not working, how do you spend your spare time?
When I’m not working, I spend most of my spare time with family & friends enjoying the outdoors, either mountain biking, hiking, snowboarding, or splitboarding.
