Understanding China's regulations is essential for any company that want to sell their products on this vast and intricate market. In 2025, significant changes will impact amongst other CCC certification, and RoHS compliance as described below. These updates can be taken to show China's commitment to safety and sustainability.
CCC Certification: Electronic Certificates and Broader Scope
China's Compulsory Certification (CCC) scheme is still an essential market-access requirement. To date, China's Compulsory Certification (CCC) program encompasses 17 categories and 106 types of products, including many electrical/electronic. Amongst the newly included products are Explosion-proof lamps (from 1 May 2025), Electrically heated toilet seats (from 1 July 2025), Lithium-ion batteries and electric bicycle charging devices (from 1 Nov 2025), EV charging equipment (from 1 Aug 2026). Implementation will phase in through 2026.
Manufacturers also need to prepare for revised technical requirements and transition dates for Handheld tools, Low-voltage switchgear assemblies, Household appliances, User devices in vehicles for 5G, and Lighting products.
Since January 2024, CCC certificates have been delivered electronically (e-certificates), while keeping key essentials like on-site audits and also the voluntary CQC mark intact.
China RoHS: Stricter Limits from 2026
China RoHS requirements will be tightened from 1 January 2026. The contents of lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, some brominated flame retardants, and phthalates will be restricted to ≤0.1%, and cadmium to ≤0.01%.
The products affected are Refrigerators, Air conditioners, Washing machines, TVs, Monitors, Computers, Printers, and Mobile phones. Demonstration of compliance may be by Supplier Declaration of Conformity (SDoC) or voluntary third-party certification.
The testing procedures shall be according to IEC 62321 and related Chinese GB/T standards,
