Over the past 12 months, there have been a growing number of electrical and electronic products with embedded artificial intelligence (AI). From medical devices supporting doctors in diagnostics, to household appliances that optimize food preparation programs, and smart home systems that adjust to human presence and behavior, AI is increasingly allowing to operate without direct human input or control. This shift brings exciting possibilities but also calls for new approaches to control, quality management, and compliance.
To support this transition, Nemko did last year establish an entity named Nemko Digital with an AI expert team based in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. This team assists clients with staying ahead of fast-evolving regulations worldwide, ensuring global market access and proper risk categorization of products with embedded AI.
The AI expert team also supports implementation of emerging standards such as the ISO/IEC 42001 for AI management systems, starting with gap assessments to identify improvement areas.
ISO/IEC 42001 is an international standard that specifies requirements for establishing, implementing, maintaining, and continually improving an Artificial Intelligence Management System (AIMS) within organizations. It is designed for entities providing or utilizing AI-based products or services, ensuring responsible development and use of AI systems.
To build trust in AI-powered products, especially in consumer facing sectors, Nemko has launched the Global AI Trust Mark. This initiative has apparently been particularly well received in Asia and increasingly used by fast- scaling AI companies as a tool for differentiation and competitive advantage.
Given the pace of change in this domain, continued investment in knowledge sharing is essential. Nemko therefore offers regular insight articles on regulatory developments and good practices, and hosts webinars on topics such as the EU AI Act, ISO/IEC 42001, and AI literacy. Updates can be followed on this LinkedIn site to stay informed.
The AI experts in Nemko Digital are prepared to assist both organizations just beginning to explore AI and those already building advanced solutions, by putting the right guardrails in place in order to innovate with confidence.
