On Thursday, February 16th, Nemko Canada in Ottawa hosted representatives from the National Radio Research Agency of Korea (RRA), Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada (ISED), the Standards Council of Canada (SCC) and Nemko Korea to participate in final meetings culminating in Nemko North America TCB being recognized as a certification body by the RRA.
Canada and Korea are signatories to the APEC TEL MRA and have both entered into Phase II activities between their respective economies. Phase II means that certification bodies located in the partner economy can be recognized to certify equipment for the other partner’s economy.
With the Nemko TCB being headquartered in Ottawa, Canada, ISED acted as our designating authority and RRA as the recognizing body for this activity.
Nemko is now the only independent 3rd party certification body recognized by the RRA for certification of equipment to Korean EMC and Radio requirements.
This is an important addition to our extensive portfolio of certification services for telecom and wireless equipment which includes access to USA, Canada, Taiwan, Hong Kong, EU, UK, and Japan.
The designation and recognition were concluded at Nemko Canada, Ottawa following successful completion of the application process, which involved gaining the necessary accreditations to ISO 17065 and ISO 17025 covering the Korean requirements.

The Korean Market
As a key global market, South Korea is known for its high demand for electronic products. The country has one of the highest rates of smartphone ownership in the world, and Koreans are known for their love of technology. This creates a large market for electronics manufacturers to tap into.
Korea is also a technologically advanced country with a high standard of living. This means that consumers in Korea are often early adopters of new technology, and they have high expectations for the quality of electronic products they purchase. With a strong economy and a large middle class, Korea remains a top market for electronics manufacturers, and being located in East Asia the market acts as a gateway to other top markets in Japan and China.
The scope of recognition can be viewed on our designation letter and covers many different types of products that require certification or registration with Korea. Examples include Unlicensed radio products such as Wi-Fi, RFID, and many types of non-radio IT equipment.
