Safety Engineer in the HOUS department of Nemko China

    Define your role within Nemko.
I am a safety engineer in the HOUS department of Nemko China Shenzhen office. My role includes safety testing of household appliances, internal training on the use of test equipment, answering customer technical questions, and regularly providing customers with technical training and technical exchanges.

How did you choose this career path?
Before joining Nemko, I worked in the test lab of a household appliance factory, there was only one single product, and I repeated the same work every day. I worked there for more than two years, but my technical level did not get much improvement. Once I talked with my friend in the same company, and he recommended “if you want to continue to engage in this industry, you must improve your own technical capability, thus you need to enter a more professional and authoritative testing company.” Later, friends recommended that I could go to Nemko. After understanding the background of Nemko company, Nemko is a Norwegian company. It is a professional, responsible, authoritative testing and certification company in the field of testing. So, I joined Nemko and started my testing career.

What do you enjoy most about your job at Nemko?
Every day's work is different, you will encounter different technical problems. When customers encounter technical problems in the process of new product development or before entering the market, we provide solutions. In the work encountered technical problems that could not be solved, we organized technical team discussions, so we could improve their own technical capability and business capability.

When you start entering the professional world, it's easy to assume that career progression will be smooth sailing. You'll find a job you're interested in, and you'll get the rewards you want. But the reality will never be that simple. On the road to life, some lessons will be learned from the history of failure. Work, sociability, and reputation are important. Having a reputation for excellence in the industry means you've built a secure network for yourself — someone will be happy to hire you. Conversely, if you don't have a good reputation, responsibility, and ability to work, it will become more and more difficult for you to do what you want to do in your career. So, it is very important to build and protect your reputation, it is your most valuable capital.

What do you think the industry will look like in 20 years?
After 20 years in the testing industry, innovation needs to seek breakthroughs. Innovators advance in the world and pave the pathway for others in the industry; they gain respect and become leaders for others. The breakthroughs are big for this industry and can help people all over the world, so they are needed to keep shaping the industry and progress in the future.

What do you find most rewarding about your role?
Service role means customer success mainly depends on how you meet customer requirements, solve product compliance problems in a timely manner, analyze problems, and provide solutions. Helping customers’ products get in the market while having greater competitiveness and greatest interests is most rewarding.

What are some market trends you’re keeping an eye on?
The development trend of the electronic and electrical industry. I believe that Intelligent development will accelerate and create competition. Intelligence in the home appliance industry-recognized development trends and is driven by technological upgrading. Interconnection is the core of the future development of intelligent home appliances and smart home landings. I also think that quality inspection continues to become stricter, bringing rich market resources to the testing business.

When not working, how do you spend your spare time?
I enjoy taking a road trip with family and a few friends, away from the noise of the city, singing, fishing, climbing, and camping. It relaxes the tense nerves at work and soothes the mood. The happiest things are never far away. In short, I think that leisure time outside of work, if everyone can rest according to their own hobbies, is the most important. If you don't get a good rest outside of work, it will affect the next step of work.
