Kason Choi
New Business Development Manager
Define your role within Nemko.
I work in the Sales and Business Development team at Nemko USA, where I assist clients in navigating the complex world of regulatory compliance. My main role is to support customers in identifying the testing, inspection, and certification services they need—whether it's for global market access, EMC testing, product safety, or specialized approvals like HazLoc/ATEX, Field Evaluations, or wireless certifications. I also coordinate closely with our project management and technical teams to ensure smooth project execution.
How did you choose this career path?
I’ve always been drawn to roles that combine technical knowledge with relationship-building. Early in my career, I found myself working with manufacturers and tech companies and realized how critical compliance is for launching products globally. The idea of helping innovative companies bring their products to market safely and efficiently really appealed to me, and that led me to the TIC (Testing, Inspection, and Certification) industry.
What do you enjoy most about your job at Nemko?
What I enjoy most is the variety. Every project is different, and I get to work with a wide range of products and technologies—from consumer electronics to industrial equipment. I also appreciate the international nature of our work—helping companies access markets worldwide while collaborating with knowledgeable colleagues across various regions.
Are there any challenges that you’ve faced during your career that have taught you important lessons?
One of the biggest challenges has been helping clients who are unaware of how complex and time-sensitive compliance can be. I've learned that communication and education are key—being proactive, transparent, and solution-oriented can make all the difference in building trust and avoiding delays.
What do you think the industry will look like in 20 years?
In 20 years, I believe the TIC industry will be much more digital and automated, with AI playing a bigger role in test planning, documentation, and perhaps even in preliminary assessments. Cybersecurity compliance will continue to grow, especially with the rise of connected devices and IoT. But at the core, I think the human element—expertise, trust, and global coordination—will still be essential.
What do you find most rewarding about your role?
Helping clients overcome obstacles and successfully launch their products gives me a great sense of accomplishment. I know how much work goes into R&D and manufacturing, so being part of the final step that gets their products into the hands of users is very rewarding.
What are some market trends you’re keeping an eye on?
I'm closely watching the growing demand for cybersecurity compliance in product certification (like the RED Delegated Act in the EU), increasing environmental regulations, and the push for faster global market access solutions. There's also a trend toward sustainability and green compliance that I think will continue to evolve.
When not working, how do you spend your spare time?
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with family, exploring new places, and playing sports with my kids. I also watch K Dramas and documentaries, and I work on creative projects whenever I get the chance.
